What is courage? Courage acknowledges that the circumstances in this life are not the measure of God’s goodness. It thinks of eternity by sacrificing what gratifies the flesh to embrace life in the spirit. Courage is devotion to what cannot be seen because what can be seen will vanish like vapor. It is the boldness to hope in God alone and trust that He will meet the needs of those who hope in Him. Courage never doubts the faithfulness of God. Courage surrenders all of one’s gifts and talents to the exclusive service of God. Courage wars against the world, the enemy, and self as a pure act of devotion to the One who devoted Himself entirely to us on Calvary. Courage never flinches in the face of temptation but instead embraces the cross and accepts suffering as an opportunity to kill sin and self. Courage laughs in the face of death and trembles at the feet of God. Courage is a life fully surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Courage is to obey and abide.
