God cares about our genuine needs and wants to provide for us in the same way that He provides for every other part of His creation. Doubting that God cares for us in such an intimate way is one of the two roadblocks that keep us from the narrow path of walking by faith. The other is unbridled desire for things we do not need. In fact, most of what we desire damages our spirit, soul, and body. God is in the business of healing and not hurting, so there are times when He does not answer our prayers because we ask for things that will hurt us, despite what we may think. Instead of doubting the faithfulness of God, we should reevaluate our motives and learn to trust more deeply. Asking for specific things or outcomes is rarely effective because we truly do not know what is best for us. Dedication to self-preservation keeps us from asking for what we truly need: the faith and wisdom to abandon self and learn to trust entirely in Christ. To heal the disease of self-preservation, ask Him to fill you with the faith and confidence that He will provide everything you need so that you can freely devote yourself to loving Him and loving others. When we truly believe that He cares for us, even down to the details of numbering the hairs on our head, we are free to stop worrying about our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. Having confidence that God will ensure we have what is necessary to be filled with hope, joy, and peace sets us free to live entirely for the glory of God.
Psalm 37:23-24
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.
