Numerous accounts in the Gospels describe Jesus' escape from death. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ demonstrated His power when His words caused the soldiers to draw back and fall to the ground. Although the Son of God took on human flesh, He was always in control. Even in that moment, Jesus maintained authority over all creation, yet He submitted Himself to the brutality of our sinful nature to redeem us from its curse.

Anyone who encounters the true story of how God rescued us from sin and death must grapple with this profound truth. The misguided passion of the Jews for God led them to manipulate the indifference of the Gentiles toward Him, thereby staining their hands with the blood of God. Both Jew and Gentile worked together to crucify the One True God; however, neither party had the power to do this by their own free will.

God became sin—the curse of the Law—and willingly endured the punishment we deserve. The wickedness of human sinfulness inflicted the suffering He faced. God Himself became sin and, in that cursed state, bore the weight of His own wrath toward sinful humanity, ultimately putting our sinful nature to death once and for all. Now, all who believe in this incredible act of love are invited to share in His resurrection. God suffered for us so that we could walk in freedom with Him! With grateful hearts, let us glorify God by walking in freedom to love Him and one another!
